COMAA Successfully Hosts 2nd Greater Bay Area Alumni Gala Dinner

Shenzhen — The Alumni Association of the Department of Media and Communication (COMAA) at the City University of Hong Kong successfully hosted its 2nd Greater Bay Area (GBA) Alumni Gala Dinner on June 13. Building upon the success of the inaugural event, this year’s gala expanded in both scale and influence, bringing together more than 80 alumni from Beijing, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and other southern China’s cities to reconnect, network, and discuss future development.
The event was attended by Professor Yi-Hui Christine HUANG and Professor Liu Xiao-Fan. Professor Liang Hai, Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a 2010 PhD graduate of the department, also attended as a special guest.
Vivian Lau, Chairperson of the Alumni Association, delivered the welcome address on behalf of the Board of Directors, centering her speech on this year's theme, "New Radiance with you" (新光同航). She noted that while the association cherishes long-standing friendships built over the years, it also continuously welcomes new faces. Alumni from different generations bring unique experiences and strengths, supporting and advancing alongside one another. She stated that the association will continue to diversify its activities and expand its global network to strengthen connections among alumni, as well as between alumni and the department, building a more cohesive community.
During the dinner, Chairperson Vivian Lau officially announced the launch of the
COMAA GBA Mentor Program. The initiative invites experienced alumni to serve as mentors and career guides, leveraging their industry expertise to provide one-on-one guidance, career counseling, and experience sharing for young alumni entering the workforce. The program aims to foster a supportive community where senior alumni guide the next generation, ensuring sustainable mutual growth.
Professor Yi-Hui Christine HUANG, Head of the Department of Media and Communication, delivered a keynote presentation detailing the department's latest achievements. She highlighted that the department maintains deep collaborations with renowned overseas institutions and consistently ranks among the top 50 globally in the QS World University Rankings for Communication & Media Studies. Furthermore, student enrollment continues to expand with record-high student quality, earning strong recognition from various sectors of society.
The gala featured a dedicated session for outstanding alumni sharing. Prominent alumni from various graduating classes and industries shared their career journeys:

The speakers recalled their time at COM, shared insights from their respective career paths, and expressed their best wishes for the department's future.
This dinner marks the second major flagship event hosted by the COMAA in the Greater Bay Area, featuring wider coverage and higher industry participation than the inaugural edition. The event received generous donations from supportive alumni, including Vivian LAU, Haosen SUN, Zhu Jiang Tac, He Juan Cathy, Chen Yanzhu Joyce, Qiu Boyu Elton, Li Henghui Ray, Li Jun Joson, Ding Hanying Yvonne, Li Yuejia Lydia and other alumni. The donors expressed their collective wish that the funds be used to enhance communication platforms, diversify alumni activities, and support the implementation of the Mentor Program to facilitate the continuous growth and development of all alumni.
