On June 5, 2026, the Department of Media and Communication (COM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) hosted a reception at the 76th Annual International Communication Association (ICA) Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. The event brought together over 400 scholars and researchers in the communication field to explore potential collaborations and discuss ongoing initiatives.
This year, COM showcased an impressive 49 research papers at the conference — the highest number in the department’s history—with 33 papers led by PhD students. The presentations spanned across 17 different divisions. Notably, one of COM's PhD students, Cao Xucheng received the Top Student Paper Award together with researcher Silvia Chen Zhang, representing CUHK in the Paper To Trust or to Verify? A Two-Wave Longitudinal Study on How Multi-Source Social Media Shapes Disaster Response and Unraveling the Chilling-Backfire Dynamic: A Mixed-Methods Study on Misinformation Moderation through the Lens of Spreaders.
