Prof Yi-Hui Christine Huang Honoured with CityUHK Presidential Research Excellence Award

The Department of Media and Communication (COM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is proud to announce that Prof. Yi-Hui Christine Huang, Head and Chair Professor of COM, has been awarded the CityUHK Presidential Research Excellence Award. This recognition reflects her remarkable contributions to research and her innovative insights, which have greatly advanced the field of communication studies.
The Selection Committee commended Prof Huang’s research program has significantly advanced the understanding of trust in contemporary societies through longitudinal and cross-cultural research, particularly in the areas of public health crises, artificial intelligence, environmental risks, technology adoption, and other societal risks.
The Committee also recognized Prof. Huang’s exceptional achievements, including being named a Research Grants Council (RGC) Senior Research Fellow in 2024. This distinction marks her as the first communication scholar in Hong Kong to receive the RGC Senior Research Fellowship. As Principal Investigator, Prof. Huang is leading the project "Navigating Trust in Turbulent Times: Gauging Situational Trust Dynamics Model (STDM) Through A Five-Year Longitudinal Study Across Chinese and Western Societies in Crisis Contexts," which has garnered approximately HKD 8 million in funding.
Prof Huang said the award is “a very meaningful recognition of my research journey and the collective efforts of my team members, students, collaborators, and colleagues. I hope our work can continue to deepen understanding of trust, the dynamics that shape it, as well as the role of communication in strengthening social resilience in an increasingly complex and uncertain world.”
