COM Students Presented Advertising Proposal to their Tech 300 Clients

21 Apr 2026 (Tue)

On 14 April 2026, eight student groups from COM4604 Communication Practicum, presented their advertising pitch project proposal to five HK Tech 300 member companies as their Capstone Projects. HK Tech 300, known as the incubation centre of the City University of Hong Kong, first time works with Department of Media and Communication (COM) not for boosting a start-up program, but for a collaborate project that benefit both their member companies and the COM students.  Five member companies, funded by the seed fund or angel fund of Tech 300, voluntarily signed up this 12-week project since January serving as the clients of the student groups. Their business covered many sectors, from AI pet health analysis to aging cognitive training, wine choice and stock management system to health food and supplements.

These start-ups were paired with student groups enrolled in COM4604 Communication Practicum, who were tasked with developing an advertising plan for their clients to raise the awareness of the products and boost sales.  Students designed frameworks and roadmaps for their clients with the aspects of product and market analysis, consumer profiling, media strategy, creative idea, and roll-out plan. The project provided an opportunity for potential graduates from the Bachelor of Media and Communication program to work with real clients and propose their ideas and proposal to the clients.  It aimed to help students better understand the practical aspects of working with clients and adapting to professional work culture.

The event was attended by Mr. Alfa Lun, Supervisory Executive Officer of HK Tech 300, as well as COM Associate Professor Crystal Jiang, who also serves as the Director of Outreach and Engagement in COM, together with three representatives from participating companies participated as panel judges of the students’ proposals.

The success of this campaign highlights COM's commitment to fostering strong industry connections and providing hands-on learning opportunities for its students.  “Having the opportunity to develop an actual marketing campaign for a real company made this project far more meaningful than a purely academic exercise. It gave us hands-on experience that we can genuinely reflect on and take forward into our careers, and it is something we will be proud to include in our portfolios.”, said by GAO Xiyi on behalf of their group.  “Your work truly exceeds our expectation, huge thanks! Your research is really insightful and the suggested deliverables are feasible and making sense to us. We appreciate the excellent works that the team delivered!”, commented by the Senior Marketing Admin Executive of MedMind Technology, Marius Fok after reading the students’ proposals.  Undoubtedly, the collaboration between the two university units resulted in a win-win.
