CityUHK brings together West China alumni through forum and reunion dinner

The University hosts the West China Regional Alumni Reunion Dinner in Chengdu to strengthen connections with alumni across West China.


City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) hosted the “West China Regional Alumni Reunion Dinner” in Chengdu in March to strengthen connections with alumni across West China. The dinner warmly welcomed more than 200 participants, including alumni from academia, business, and public service, along with University representatives and faculty members, and provided a meaningful platform for reconnecting and sharing CityUHK's latest developments and outstanding achievements.

Professor Freddy Boey, CityUHK President and University Distinguished Professor, shared some of the University’s remarkable achievements with the alumni. He noted that CityUHK has continued to extend its influence and capacity, consolidating its development in the Greater Bay Area and other regions through the Dongguan campus. He also highlighted that the University’ s research institutes in Shenzhen, Chengdu and Qingdao have advanced interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation, contributing significantly to regional development.

President Boey emphasised the close ties between CityUHK and Chengdu, noting that the establishment of the CityUHK Chengdu Research Institute in 2017 marked a major milestone in the University's strategic development in the Chinese Mainland.

He emphasised that CityUHK’s substantial progress relies on the strong support of its alumni. He expressed gratitude to alumnus Dr Li Weidong, Chairman of the fourth Executive Committee of the CityUHK Chengdu Alumni Chapter, and its ExCo members for their ongoing contributions. “This dinner fully demonstrates everyone’s deep affection for their alma mater. I hope the alumni in the West China region will continue to support the University's development and grow together with CityUHK,” he said.


President Boey takes the stage with a band, performing Chinese and Western pop favourites to end the evening with warmth and joy.

The evening also featured iconic Sichuan opera tea art and face-changing performances, as well as a singing performance by the Chengdu Alumni Chapter. President Boey led a band in performing Chinese and Western pop classics, offering blessings and bringing the evening to a warm and heartfelt close.

Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President of CityUHK, delivered the closing remarks, stating that the programme embodied the culture of Sichuan and the enthusiasm, talent and creativity of CityUHK members. He thanked all the distinguished guests and alumni who have supported CityUHK and worked to unite alumni over the years.

CityUHK hosts the alumni forum on cultural innovation and the digital economy in Chengdu.

Earlier that afternoon, an alumni forum on “New Opportunities in Cultural Innovation and the Digital Economy”, hosted by the CLASS, brought together experts and alumni to discuss cross-disciplinary collaboration in cultural tourism, new media, artificial intelligence and green industries.

President Boey remarked that CityUHK is an international university that values innovation and application. In recent years, the University’s academic achievements and innovative research have gained significant international recognition, with CityUHK consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities in four major international rankings. The CLASS brings together the humanities, social sciences and creative professions, actively connecting local and international communities. The College emphasises the integration of culture, creativity and digital technology, and has promoted numerous international cooperation projects and exhibitions in recent years.
