Lau Ka Ying (Kylie), a Year 3 BATVB student, has won the Merit Award in the HK4As Students’ Award 2026!

Kylie and her teammates submitted their project “MK哥池” to align with the 2026 thematic topic “MK Culture.” Their team was selected for the Merit Award from among 119 participating teams.

“This is definitely a meaningful recognition for me. The journey was far from easy, as every team demonstrated impressive creativity and dedication. What truly made a difference was understanding the value of storyboarding and storytelling. These are not just technical components but the foundation that allows a project to engage its audience. A clear storyboard provides structure, while storytelling transforms ideas into emotions that resonate,” Kylie shared.

She further explained that the task was especially challenging because the topic, “MK Culture,” is deeply tied to local identity. Portraying it with sensitivity and creativity was no small feat. To overcome this, her team incorporated cultural symbols and language to enrich their storytelling approach.

Being recognized in one of Hong Kong’s prestigious advertising competitions has motivated Kylie to continue her journey. “Receiving this Merit Award reminds me that success is not only about winning but also about learning how to turn complexity into clarity and abstraction into emotion. It reinforces my belief that perseverance, creativity, and the courage to address challenging topics are what make the journey truly rewarding,” she concluded.

Kylie, Congratulations!
