Communication Research Skills Workshop How to Write and Revise for Leading Journals in Communication?
27 Nov 2025 (Thu)
On November 19, 2025, Prof. Winson Peng, Professor in the Department of Communication at Michigan State University and Editor-in-Chief of Human Communication Research, delivered an academic workshop titled “How to Write and Revise for Leading Journals in Communication” for faculty members and doctoral students of the department.
Drawing on decades of editorial experience across multiple leading journals in communication, Prof. PENG shared his insider’s perspective on how manuscripts are read, evaluated, and revised for publication. Conducted in an interactive Q&A format, the workshop addressed persistent questions about crafting, restructuring, and refining scholarly work—from what editors look for in the first few pages to how revision letters are interpreted and final decisions are made.
The event attracted nearly 40 participants, including faculty members, doctoral students, and visiting scholars, who contributed to a lively and intellectually stimulating exchange. Prof. Peng responded in detail to audience questions and emphasized that theoretical clarity, conceptual coherence, and communicative precision—rather than mere topical trendiness or methodological sophistication—are the primary factors that shape editorial judgments and distinguish publishable contributions in the communication discipline.
