CityUHK hosts film sharing session on Measure in Love featuring Professor Sylvia Chang

The Department of Media and Communication (COM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) recently hosted a film sharing session on Measure in Love, featuring
Professor Sylvia Chang Ai-chia, renowned artist, film producer, and adjunct professor in the COM at CityUHK, as the keynote speaker. Professor Chang shared behind-the-scenes stories and insights into the creative process of filmmaking with students and faculty.
Themed “The Birth of a Film”, the session was moderated

Ms Angela Yuen Lai-lam, art & image director
Mr Man Lim-chung, visual effects artist
Mr Alex Lim Hung-fung, and film composer
Mr Chu Wan-pin. Together, they offered an in-depth look at the filmmaking journey, from story development, casting and location scouting to costume design and music composition, generously sharing their professional expertise with students and faculty.
The event drew about 200 student participants and was held in a packed venue with an enthusiastic atmosphere. Professor Chang and the production team elaborated on various aspects of film production, using examples from the movie to illustrate the challenges they faced and how they overcame them.
Professor Chang says this is her first class at CityUHK.
“This is my first class at CityUHK, and I’m delighted to share my experience with the students,” said Professor Chang. “Although filmmaking is often full of challenges and limited resources, perseverance can lead to remarkable outcomes.” Her encouragement for students to bravely pursue their dreams resonated strongly with the audience.
During the Q&A session, students actively engaged with Professor Chang, asking questions and exploring her rich experience and unique perspectives in the film industry. Passionate about collaborating with the next generation of filmmakers, Professor Chang is committed to advancing the film industry and fostering knowledge transfer—an ethos that closely aligns with CityUHK’s mission to nurture future leaders.

An internationally acclaimed filmmaker, Professor Chang is an accomplished actor, screenwriter, and director. She has received multiple Best Actress and Best Screenplay awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards and the Golden Horse Awards, as well as Best Director awards from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society and the Hong Kong Directors' Guild. She specialises in film directing, visual storytelling, cross-media creation and strategic communication. She joined CityUHK as an adjunct professor in May this year, providing students with valuable opportunities to connect with the industry.
Measure in Love was funded by the Film Development Fund and was fully supported by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency and the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. This sharing session deepened the students’ understanding of the essence of filmmaking and provided a vital platform for academic and industry exchange at CityUHK.
