CityUHK Strengthens Central Asia Ties with Visit from Uzbekistan Higher Education Leaders

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) welcomed a delegation from Gulistan State Pedagogical Institute, Gulistan University, and Yangiyer Branch of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Uzbekistan.

The delegation was led by Karshibaev Jakhongir, Rector of Gulistan State Pedagogical Institute; Eshmurodov Dilmurod Dusmurod Ugli, Vice-Rector of Gulistan State University; and Doniyarov Ghiyos Tilovovich, Vice-Rector of the Yangiyer Branch of the Institute of Chemical Technology. They were warmly received by Professor Wen Jung Li, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy), and Professor Jennifer Lin, Associate Vice-President (Global Strategy) of CityUHK.

During the visit, the parties shared institutional profiles, academic strengths and international strategies, and explored opportunities for academic exchange and research collaboration. The discussions marked a positive step toward building stronger ties and future cooperation.

Congratulations to Our Distinguished Visiting Professors

Warmest congratulations to our Distinguished Visiting Professors (DVPs), Professor Colm Durkan and Professor Harm-Anton Klok, as well as CityUHK faculty members Professor Lu Jian and Professor Alex Jen Kwan-yue, on their joint success in awarding the HKSAR Government’s SEAM@InnoHK initiative.

Professor Colm Durkan, Head of the Department of Engineering, Professor of Nanoengineering Science, and Head of the Nanoscience Centre at the University of Cambridge, will jointly lead the Centre for Advanced and Smart Manufacturing (CASM) with Professor Lu Jian, Dean of the College of Engineering at CityUHK, driving innovation in intelligent manufacturing and advanced engineering solutions.

Professor Harm-Anton Klok, from the Institutes of Materials, Chemical Sciences and Engineering at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), will contribute his internationally recognised expertise to the Sustainable Materials & Advanced Renewable Technologies Centre (SMART), which is co-led with Professor Alex Jen Kwan-yue, Lee Shau Kee Chair Professor of Materials Science at CityUHK. Together, they will advance pioneering research in sustainable materials and renewable energy technologies.

CityUHK Shares Insights at 2026 Hong Kong International Talents Conference

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) participated in the 2026 Hong Kong International Talents Conference, contributing to the thematic forum “Focusing on Hong Kong’s Positioning and Value: Hong Kong’s Advantages and Role as an International Hub for High-calibre Talent and a National Talent Gateway.” Representing CityUHK, Prof. Wen-Jung Li shared the University’s perspectives on attracting and supporting world-class scholars in an increasingly competitive global talent landscape.


At the forum, Prof. Li highlighted CityUHK’s strengths in fostering a problem-driven and interdisciplinary research ecosystem, where collaboration across engineering, computing, materials science, life sciences, business, and the humanities enables impactful research and rapid team formation around frontier challenges. He also emphasised Hong Kong’s highly internationalised academic system, strong global connectivity, and close links with national development and Greater Bay Area industrial opportunities.


Prof. Li further noted that efficiency and institutional support are crucial to attracting top scholars, including flexible recruitment mechanisms, streamlined procedures, and integrated support in research funding, facilities, postgraduate student allocation, and international collaboration. He also underscored Hong Kong’s unique role as a gateway connecting global academic networks with China’s research, innovation, and market opportunities.


CityUHK’s participation reflected its commitment to advancing academic excellence, strengthening global partnerships, and contributing to Hong Kong’s development as an international centre for high-calibre talent.
