Distinguished Visiting Professor Nigel Brandon Visits CityUHK
Professor Nigel Brandon, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Professor of Sustainable Development in Energy at Imperial College London, and our Distinguished Visiting Professor visited CityUHK. During his visit, Professor Brandon delivered an engaging seminar titled “Innovations in Electrochemical Technology for the Low Carbon Energy Transition,” where he explored groundbreaking advancements in sustainable energy solutions. He also met with student representatives from the College of Engineering, where he shared insights from his academic journey and emphasized the importance of deep learning in the AI era. The discussions were enriching and inspired students to think critically about their future endeavors in engineering and technology.
CityUHK Leads with Plenary Lecture at ICAN AI Challenge National Finals
To showcase CityUHK’s leadership in research and learning—and to engage prospective talent—Professor Wen Jung Li delivered a plenary lecture on 27 December 2025 at the ICAN University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition—AI Challenge National Finals, hosted by the Wuxi Education Bureau.
This year’s competition brought together more than 2,600 students and faculty from over 300 universities nationwide, presenting 898 high-quality projects. Since its inception, the ICAN Competition has become a major national platform for cultivating innovative talent. The 2025 edition introduced the AI Challenge for the first time, featuring two tracks—AI Application Innovation and iQIYI AIGC—which attracted participation from over ten thousand teachers and students across the country.

Advancing Belt and Road Collaboration and Sharing AI Insights for a Sustainable Future at ICASF 2025
Professor Wen Jung Li, CityUHK’s Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy), signed an MoU with Professor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University (ADU), at the 3rd International Conference on Advancing Sustainable Futures (ICASF 2025), hosted by ADU in the UAE on 10–11 December 2025. The agreement establishes a broad framework for academic collaboration, including faculty/staff exchanges, student mobility, and joint research, workshops, and seminars—advancing shared commitments to the UN SDGs..
Ranked among the UAE’s top three universities, ADU is a regional leader in sustainability. At ICASF’s Forum on “Artificial Intelligence and Society,” Professor Li discussed how AI and robotics can reduce environmental impact while supporting growth, and the skills youth need for an AI-powered sustainable economy. He emphasized research-driven, ethical AI to address global challenges and unlock evidence-based, scalable solutions for a sustainable and equitable future.
