BenchTech 2026: Advancing Data, Impact and Innovation in Higher Education
Founded by EFPL a decade ago, the BenchTech Seminar 2026 was hosted by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) from 30 September to 2 October. The biannual event brought together institutional research, planning, and analytics professionals from renowned universities worldwide, including MIT, ETH Zurich, TU Munich, Virginia Tech, TU Delft, and HKUST, to exchange insights on emerging trends and challenges in the higher education landscape.
Representing CityUHK, Prof Wen-Jung Li, VPTI, delivered a presentation on the growing topic of assessing the societal impact of university research and innovation. Drawing on both CityUHK's experience and his own perspectives, he provided insights into the feasibility of incorporating social impact indicators alongside traditional bibliometric measures to evaluate contributions to economic development, technological advancement, and societal well-being.
Key discussions throughout the seminar focused on societal impact, the increasing uncertainty facing higher education, the use of data and AI to enhance administrative efficiency, inclusive approaches to institutional governance, and the growing role of analytics in informing strategic decision-making.
The seminar provided a valuable platform for CityUHK to share its vision with international peers and strengthen its global engagement network.
MOU with Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics
On 23 September 2026, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster deeper academic and research ties between the two institutions.
The MOU maps out potential collaborative pathways, includes co‑supervision and joint training of postgraduate students, joint laboratory development, collaborative research grants, and joint publications.
This partnership also underscores CityUHK’s ongoing commitment to strengthening cross‑border academic collaboration and nurturing top‑tier talent.
CityUHK Delegation Explores Collaboration During Xinjiang Visit
A high‑level delegation from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), led by Prof. Wen Jung Li, Vice‑President (Talent and International Strategy), visited Xinjiang University and Xinjiang Agricultural University to explore opportunities for academic and research collaboration.
Comprising senior administrators and distinguished professors across engineering, computer science, chemistry, veterinary medicine and public health, the delegation held bilateral talks with leadership and academic representatives from both host institutions and visited major academic faculties and research platforms to learn about local strengths in energy studies, information technology, food science and animal‑veterinary disciplines.
Discussion focused on potential cooperation in joint research, faculty and student exchange, as well as talent training to leverage their respective disciplinary strengths and expertise for mutual beneficial partnerships.
This visit further strengthened academic ties between higher‑education institutions of Hong Kong and Xinjiang, providing a solid foundation for future cross‑regional knowledge sharing and joint educational‑research initiatives.
