H.E. Mr Farhod Arziev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to China, visited City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) on 7 July. The two sides explored diverse opportunities for collaboration in higher education between CityUHK and institutions in Uzbekistan, including joint training programmes and student and faculty exchange initiatives.
Professor the Honourable Michael Ngai, Chairman of the Council, and members of the senior management warmly welcomed the Ambassador. The senior management team included Professor Chun-Sing Lee, Acting President; Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise); Professor Li Wen Jung, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy); Professor Lu Chun, Vice-President (Mainland Strategy); Professor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement); Miss Maggie Chau, Vice-President (Administration); and Mr Ronald Chu, General Counsel & Secretary to Council.
Professor Ngai previously led a CityUHK delegation to Uzbekistan to deepen academic and research collaboration. Professor Ngai remarked, "This visit by the Ambassador demonstrates the shared commitment of CityUHK and Uzbekistan to establishing global partnerships and knowledge exchange, as well as our shared vision to connect institutions, inspire innovation and nurture global talent. We look forward to building on our existing foundation to further deepen the close collaboration between institutions in Uzbekistan and CityUHK."
Professor Lee thanked the Ambassador for visiting the University and expressed his desire to further strengthen exchanges and foster connections with Uzbekistan. Professor Li then shared some of the University's research achievements and recent developments with the Ambassador. The two sides engaged in fruitful, in-depth discussions on collaboration opportunities, such as student and faculty exchanges and talent training.
CityUHK has been ranked the "Most International University in the World" for three consecutive years (2024, 2025 and 2026). It actively supports the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's initiative to build the "Study in Hong Kong" brand, helping to develop Hong Kong into an international education hub. The University will continue to strengthen exchange and collaboration through global partnerships, particularly with higher education institutions in Belt and Road countries and the Central Asian region, to promote academic excellence and foster cultural synergy.
