COM Research Seminar on 15 April 2024

On April 15, 2024, The Department of Media and Communication at the City University of Hong Kong held our final seminar of the semester today, featuring a series of mock presentations by PhD students whose papers had been accepted for the upcoming 74th Annual International Communication Association (ICA) conference. The seminar served as a preparatory platform for ten PhD students to fine-tune their presentations ahead of the highly regarded international event. The research topics discussed were wide-ranging, covering critical areas such as political communication, information trust, framing, social media, media psychology, information-seeking behavior, journalism, misinformation, perceptions of AI technology, and health communication. Each participant was given a limited timeframe in which to elucidate their research questions, theoretical frameworks, and key findings. The presentations also highlighted the innovative aspects and contributions of their research, sparking engaging discussions among attendees. Faculty members were actively engaged, offering constructive criticism on presentation skills, and engaging in detailed discussions about the research content. Approximately 30 faculty members and PhD students attended the seminar, demonstrating strong interest in the diverse and advancing fields within media and communication studies.
