On March 21, Prof. Xigen Li, Distinguished Professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, Shanghai University, and former professor at the Department of Media and Communication, City University of Hong Kong, conducted a seminar titled "Empirical Questions and Theoretical Application," delved into the foundational aspects of academic inquiry. With an emphasis on the challenges of theory selection and application, Prof. Li drew upon his own research experience to illustrate the complex yet critical nature of theoretical frameworks in understanding media use and communication behavior. He presented a compelling case for the necessity of a theory-driven approach to empirical questions, which can lead to a more profound level of academic pursuit. The seminar attracted approximately 20 individuals, including faculty members and Ph.D. students.
