On February 5, 2024, Prof. Ji Won Kim, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media and Communication at the City University of Hong Kong, delivered a seminar titled "Feeling Fatigued, More Misinformed: How Message Fatigue Affects Misinformation Belief." In the seminar, Prof. Kim presented the results of a two-wave survey aimed at dissecting the impact of message fatigue on the public's inclination to avoid information and their subsequent belief in misinformation. The findings highlighted a concerning trend: higher levels of message fatigue may lead to an increased belief in misinformation, a process that is also influenced by political orientation and information avoidance. The seminar underscored that this effect is particularly pronounced among conservatives, who exhibit a greater tendency to be affected by message fatigue compared to their liberal counterparts. The seminar attracted approximately 20 individuals, including faculty members, Ph.D. students, and scholars from various disciplines.
