Professor Fen Jennifer Lin's Film Ani Choying Drolma: Mission Impossible wins two awards at the 39th Warsaw International Film Festival

The film Ani Choying Drolma: Mission Impossible, directed by Professor Fen Jennifer Lin of the Department of Media and Communication and Associate Vice-President (Global Strategy), along with collaborator Shan Bai, has received the esteemed NETPAC Award for the Best Asian/Pacific film and the Best Audience Award at the 39th Warsaw International Film Festival.
 
The NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Award is given by the Warsaw International Film Festival to the best Asian/Pacific film by juries. The International Federation of Film Producers Associations recognizes the Warsaw International Film Festival as one of the world’s premier accredited competitive film festivals.
 
In the past seven years, Professor Lin and her team travelled across eight countries and regions to film this documentary. The film narrates the story of the groundbreaking Ani Choying Drolma, a “rock-star” Nepali nun who fights for girls’ education while reconciling with her abusive father and achieving inner freedom by fulfilling his last wish in Tibet. After taking took refuge in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Nepal following her childhood trauma, Ani Choying Drolma learned to sing and became a well-known “singing nun” on the global stage. With her heavenly voice, she has founded welfare groups for nuns; created a modern school for girls; built a hospital in Kathmandu, received the Freedom Award in Warsaw, and championed awareness about gender inequality at the global stage.
