Public Screening of students’ documentary “Lighthouse Memories: Waglan Island Lighthouse”

Three students from the Department of Media and Communication premiered  their 20-minute documentary on a local historical lighthouse on 15-16 May in the Hong Kong Maritime Museum.

Jingyi Guo, Yunting Guo and Ruihua Jiang produced the documentary titled “Lighthouse Memories: Wagland Island Lighthouse as part of their coursework under the supervision of Dr. Joe He.

The documentary depicts the historical development of the lighthouse in its role in maritime navigation that linked Hong Kong to the West.  It is also part of the Lighthouse Heritage Research Connections Project (LHRC) based at Run Run Shaw Library.

Prof Yu-li LIU, Head of Department, attended the public screening to support and encourage the COM students for their excellent and hard works.

The documentary has been well received by the audience and the Chai Wan Fishermen’s Recreation Club.  Their research and visual presentation has filled a gap in the history of Hong Kong lighthouses before World War II.
