Grammarly is an AI-powered writing assistant that helps users improve their grammar and spelling while writing in a web browser, such as through the Grammarly Editor (https://app.grammarly.com). Grammarly for Education is available to our university (CityUHK) students and staff, providing access to additional features like vocabulary suggestions.

How to Apply for New Account?


If you wish to improve your English writing using "Grammarly for Education", please follow the guide below to apply for an account via the university's Service Portal.

  1. There is a limit on the number of "Grammarly for Education" seats available for CityUHK students and staff. It is possible that you may meet the message Sorry, Grammarly Premium licenses have reached the limit already. when you register for the user account. If this happens, you can create a free Grammarly account using a non-CityUHK email address for current use. Please email grammarly.enquiry@cityu.edu.hk for further inquiries.

Sign In CityUHK Grammarly


If you have joined the CityUHK "Grammarly for Education" service, you can sign in the service using one of the methods below.

Method 1: Through CityUHK Authentication System (Recommended)

  1. Log in to CityUHK My Apps Dashboard
  2. Click the Grammarly icon (if it is not shown, type "Grammarly" in the top search field),

    then land on the Grammarly Dashboard

If no Grammarly icon is shown on the My Apps page, please follow the Grammarly - Registration & Activation guide to apply for an account via the university's Service Portal.

Method 2: Grammarly Website Directly

  1. On the Grammarly website, click the Log In link in the top right
  2. On the "Sign In" pop-up, input the Email field (format as below)
    student:EID-c@my.cityu.edu.hk
    staff:EID@cityu.edu.hk
  3. Click the Continue button, then jump to the CityUHK authentication page




After signing in to the Grammarly service successfully, the Grammarly Dashboard (https://app.grammarly.com) will be opened.



Use Grammarly Dashboard on Web


After logging in to Grammarly successfully, the Grammarly Dashboard is the first thing you will see. This page allows you to:

  1. Docs
    • Create and upload documents, store them with version history
    • Write and edit text in the "Grammarly Editor", utilizing all of its AI-powered writing assistance features
    • Access the editor in any supported browser and do not need to download any other applications to computers
  1. Your Account
  2. Writing


Install Additional Applications on Computers


If you prefer to write and edit text using Grammarly with other native applications, such as Microsoft Office, please install Grammarly for Desktop ( Windows / Mac ).

Grammarly Browser Extension is available for the web browsers below.

  1. Note that these applications may limit certain AI-powered writing assistance features and customization options for your "Account" settings.
