CityU will become even more internationalized as it sets out to attract more non-local students, says Professor H K Chang, CityU President.
About 150 CityU staff and students attended the University Development Forum on Campus Development on 24 November, at which University management presented the latest developments of major capital projects, followed by a Q & A session.
Professor H K Chang, CityU President, says the new Creative Media Centre at CityU will be a landmark building for Hong Kong and he acknowledges the creative genius of architect Daniel Libeskind.
CityU signed a memorandum of understanding with Fujian Province Personnel Bureau on 16 November. The memorandum signifies cooperation in areas that will benefit both parties, such as personnel training, technology transfer and information resources.
CityU is holding its 2005 Congregation from 8 to 11 and 15 to 16 November. This year, through its provision of quality professional education, CityU has nurtured 5,296 graduates.
The distinguished film maker Mr Zhang Yimou will receive an Honorary Doctor of Letters at CityU's 2005 Congregation, to be held from 8 to 11 and 15 to 16 November. Honorary doctorates will also be conferred on three other distinguished individuals.
Three hundred students and guests applauded the slogan "Reading for fun, I'll do it", at the Opening Ceremony of "World Book Day" and "2004 Hong Kong Reading Month" on 23 April at CityU's University Circle. The Ceremony was co-organized by CityU, RTHK Radio 1, the Hong Kong Publishing Federation, Hong Kong Education City, The Hong Kong Association of Youth Groups, and Hong Kong Public Libraries (Leisure and Cultural Services Department).
On 20 April 2004, Professor H K Chang, University President, together with CityU's Deputy President and two vice-presidents, met with 17 student representatives, led by Mr Kelvin Chan, President of the Students' Union, to exchange views on the issue of "deep collaboration" between CityU and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
Dear Colleagues, At the end of March, I led a CityU delegation to Shanghai. The visit came in response to an invitation extended to us in 2002 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). It was delayed due to SARS and other circumstances last year. The trip proved to be both inspiring and sobering.
