Promoting a reading culture in the community is one of the themes of CityU’s 20th anniversary celebration. Reaching beyond the campus, CityU academics joined hands with renowned scholars to share their secrets to learning English, at the Joint Publishing Company Art Gallery on 22 May.
Dear Colleagues: Almost half a year has passed since I last shared with you the progress of our quest for donations. As the end-of-June deadline of the Government Matching Grant Scheme (MGS) is approaching, I have received more enquiries than ever about how much money CityU has raised so far in relation to the Scheme.
University President Professor H K Chang outlined the big picture and CityU's future direction at the University Development Forum, 25 May, in the Wei Hing Theatre packed with some 300 staff members and students. While a projected shortfall in budgetary position in 2008-09 exists, according to Professor Chang the University shows encouraging potential to make ends meet through its self-financing programmes.
To honour a handsome donation to CityU by Dr Tin Ka Ping, the University named Lecture Theatre 1 after the distinguished industrialist and philanthropist today. A plaque engraved with Dr Tin's motto was unveiled at the ceremony. The motto,“To help others, you are helping yourself. To help develop others, you must first develop yourself", lies behind Dr Tin's ongoing support for the University.
Twelve students from the Division of Language Studies (LS) received scholarships at the 3rd Korean Scholarship Award Ceremony, 18 May. They will be sponsored to take a four-week intensive Korean Language and Culture Programme at the Kyung Hee University this summer.
