Emaar, one of the world's largest real estate developers, wanted to collaborate with startups to address environmental challenges in the real estate and construction industries. The Emaar Innovation Challenge received over 240 applications from 43 regions and countries.
Under the supervision of Professor Michael Leung, Miss Felice Adeline Yau, a recent graduate of BEng Environmental Science and Engineering (EVE) won the Championship in the 2021-2022 Best Final-Year Environmental Project (Individual Project) Competition, organized by the Environmental Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) with her final-year project titled “Hydrogen Production of Pt-TiO2 Nanotubes from Butyric Acid Photoreforming”.
Following the previous work, Dr. Sam Hsu’s research team uncovers the intrinsic and interfacial properties of lead-free hybrid perovskite halide material (i.e., MA3Bi2Cl9–yIy). The dynamic interfacial interactions of band-gap funneling MA3Bi2Cl9–xIx perovskites are systematically investigated by using temperature-dependent transient photoluminescence and electrochemical voltammetric techniques.
We are delighted to have Dr. Winnie Tang, MH, JP, share her expertise and insights on Smart Technologies Driving Sustainable Smart Cities at the SEE Colloquium on 18 January 2023. In the Colloquium, Dr. Tang talked about global trends of smart cities, the journey of Hong Kong towards a smart city, how emerging technologies empower informed decision-making, and the next step forward for a sustainable future. The Colloquium was conducted on-campus again after years of the pandemic.
A group of SEE undergraduate students visited Schneider Electric to attend a career talk and look into the Innovation Hub. Thanks for the guidance and advice from Ir Ian Lee (Solution Director) and Mr. Adrian Ho (Engineering Trainee) through the visit, our students all had a wonderful experience. They are now having a better understanding on EcoStruxure Building Advisor & Building Operation, EAOA (AR glasses) Demo, etc. We look forward to collaborating with Schneider Electric on more career development initiatives.
Metal oxides are a promising catalyst for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting to produce hydrogen as alternative energy. However, their effectiveness is restricted at low voltage. A research team led by scholars from City University of Hong Kong (CityU), Australia and Germany successfully mediated the poor charge carrier transport at low voltage by adding phosphorus to a metal oxide catalyst, which reduced energy losses during water splitting. The findings offer a potential option for achieving carbon neutrality.
SEE PhD student Miss Yuwei Du and Postdoc Mr. Sai Liu from Dr. Edwin Tso’s research group were interviewed by Fengshows regarding their developed intelligent thermal-responsive window for building thermal management and energy saving.
After the weeks of final exams, SEE Student Chapter arranged the SEE Barbecue Night for all SEE members, including faculty members, students and alumni to reunite and celebrate the festive December.
With the gift donation from Professor Guohua Chen (SEE Dean), faculty members and the advice from Dr. Edwin Tso (Advisor of SEE Student Chapter), the Barbecue Night was successfully held with close to a hundred SEE members joining. Everyone had a great time filled with laughter and lasting memories.
Congratulations to Dr. Jin Shang, Associate Professor of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), who has been conferred the “Young Scientist Award” at the inaugural International Congress on Separation and Purification Technology (ISPT2022) in recognition of his research excellence in Catalysis and Adsorption-based Separations.
Under the supervision of Dr. Edwin Tso, the team formed by Miss Yuwei Du (PhD student), Dr. Sai Liu (Postdoc) and Dr. Yihao Zhu (Postdoc) won the Gold Award in the 8th China International College Students 'Internet+' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. This Gold Award winning team will be the only team representing Hong Kong to participate in the national Quarter Finals.
