A groundbreaking study utilizing advanced high-resolution supercomputer simulations has been published in the latest issue of Nature Communications. This research, titled “Moisture control of tropical cyclones in high-resolution simulations of paleoclimate and future climate,” sheds light on the global frequency of tropical cyclones. Prof. Jung-Eun CHU, a corresponding author of the paper, emphasizes the study’s findings, which establish a strong coherence between theory, empirical models, and explicit simulations of tropical cyclones.
Prof. Zhiguo Yuan, Chair Professor of Urban Water Management and a Global STEM Professor at the School of Energy and Environment, CityU, has recently published his latest ground-breaking research work in Nature Communications. The paper, titled "Integrated urban water management by coupling iron salt production and application with biogas upgrading", presents an effective technological solution for integrated management of urban water systems, resulting in significant system-wide benefits.
According to metrics compiled by Stanford University and the updated data published on 4 October 2023, twenty-six faculty members of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) are listed among the top 2% of the world’s most highly cited scientists (i.e., top 2% in the world in their own areas of specialty), that equates to nearly 60% of the School’s entire faculty body. Chopra, was published in the renowned scientific journal Nature Communications which provides insights into the resilience of interconnected transportation networks amid growing climate change concerns.
Prof. Jin Shang, Associate Professor of SEE, has been awarded a grant of HK$1.02M and additional provisions for postdoctoral researchers over a period of two years for his project titled "Development of Molecular Sieve for Oxygen Production with Low Power Consumption." This project aimed at developing next-generation adsorbent materials and novel gas separation processes for efficient oxygen production from air with high energy efficiency.
Professor Chu Jung-Eun, Assistant Professor of the School of Energy and Environment, has been invited by CNN for an interview to discuss the topics of climate change and the recent occurrence of severe flooding. In just 12 days, ten countries and territories globally have experienced severe flooding including Hong Kong, Libya, Greece, and Brazil. During her interview with CNN, Professor Chu stated that climate change can influence the properties of precipitation in terms of frequency, intensity, and duration due to the accelerated hydrological cycle.
