The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) is delighted to announce that the following students have been chosen as the recipients of the Outstanding Final Year Project Award of the year.

A group of 38 SEE alumni, students, academic faculties, administrative staff, together with their family and friends joined Hiking/Cleaning the Environment Trip to Devil’s Peak on 16 May 2021. The trip was organized by SEE alumni Association, led by Dr. Denis Yu, which aims to enhance bonding between SEE family and sense of belonging to SEE.

Winners of the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2021, including Dr. Edwin Tso who received the Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at Inventions Geneva Evaluation Days 2021, were invited to join the Chief Executive’s Reception to congratulate the success of Hong Kong teams at the Grand Hall of Hong Kong Science Park on 17 May 2021. At the Reception, Dr. Tso explained his innovation on “An Energy-Free, Low-Cost and High Cooling Performance Passive Radiative Cooling Technology for Building Applications” to Ms.

Dr. Edwin Tso and his team (Miss. Yuwei Du, Miss. Siru Chen, Mr. Luke Christopher Chao, Mr. Kaixin Lin, Dr. Hau Him Lee, Dr. Tsz Chung Ho), as well as Prof. Michael Leung, won the Champion Prize in the 2020/2021 Environmental Paper Award held by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Environmental Division. The awarded paper is entitled “An energy-free and low-cost daytime passive radiative cooling paint for energy saving in buildings and decarbonization”.

Dr Shauhrat S. Chopra, Assistant Professor, was invited by the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers - Control, Automation & Instrumentation Division to be a speaker of webinar, namely “Data driven Waste Management and Resource Efficiency: Path to a Decarbonization and Circular Economy” on 28 April 2021.

Dr. Denis Yu, SEE Associate Professor, recently won the Innovative CityU-Learning Awards (Semester B, 2020/21) with his idea of “allowing students to put theories into practices, and to examine the physical world by bringing hands-on experiments and projects to their homes”.

With its commitment to making the world a better place, Binnies Hong Kong Limited (“Binnies”) has generously donated to the School of Energy and Environment in support of the selected 2020/21 final year projects (as listed below) relating to renewable energy and waste management.

To nurture young leaders in the industry of energy and environment, Telemax Environmental and Energy Management Ltd. (TEEM) has donated scholarships to the University in order to award students with outstanding academic performance and promising attributes. SEE invited Ir. Prof. P L Yuen, President of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), to share his insights with students and faculty members on 27 April 2021.  To foster a greener environment, energy-saving solutions in public hospitals become more and more important. Ir. Prof. Yuen shared with the audiences the innovative solutions, as well as his experiences in leading different projects including the first combined heat & power project in Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.

SEE PhD students and a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Edwin Tso's group (Miss. Shirley Du, Mr. Martin Zhu, Mr. Johnny Lin, and Dr. Liam Lee), recently took part and won the start-up fund in the Climate Action Recognition Scheme 2020-21 under the idea stage programme.
