The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences proudly announced that Professor TSUI Lik-hang, Assistant Professor at CityU’s Department of Chinese and History (CAH), has been bestowed with the prestigious 2023 University Grants Committee (UGC) Teaching Award for the Early Career Faculty Members category.
The award, granted to exemplary educators from UGC-funded universities for their outstanding teaching performance and achievements, celebrates Prof Tsui’s remarkable commitment to fostering a vibrant learning environment and his ability to inspire and engage students.
Upon receiving this esteemed accolade, Prof Tsui recounted that he had chosen to become a history teacher because history is significant in nurturing civically-oriented and reflective individuals. By incorporating digital elements, he believes that learning Chinese history could be more engaging for the current generation of digital natives who are growing up surrounded by machines.
Prof Tsui is a scholar of premodern Chinese history and digital humanities. His expertise has earned him international recognition and accreditation, including being an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in the UK.
Proficient in leveraging digital tools, Prof Tsui pioneers innovative approaches to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of teaching and learning. Just as his teaching motto, “A Digital Deep Dive into Where the Past and Present Meet,” reflects his commitment to a student-centred approach, he strives to integrate digital humanities pedagogy in teaching Chinese history, maximising students’ inquiry process in the subject area. Through his work, he revitalises history education with technology, empowering the next generation with knowledge, digital literacy, and reasoning skills.
