CLASS Faculty Appointed to American Psychological Association Committee

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of City University of Hong Kong is delighted to announce that Professor Nancy YU Xiaonan, Associate Professor of Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences, has been appointed as a committee member to serve on the Committee for the Advancement of General Applied Psychology, American Psychological Association, effective from June 2023.

Prof Yu is a health psychologist with training in public health. Her research programme has focused on resilience in adversities (e.g., chronic illnesses, immigration, bereavement, and crises) by examining the resilience process and protective factors at the individual, dyadic, family, and community levels. She has applied the community-based participatory research approach to develop and evaluate culturally sensitive interventions in resilience enhancement. She has been working closely with cross-disciplinary scholars and practitioners to address real-world problems with psychological science.

American Psychological Association, a globally prestigious society in the discipline, created its Committee for the Advancement of General Applied Psychology to promote psychological and behavioural science use, application, and advancement in contexts beyond the laboratory and the delivery of individual healthcare services. The examples of areas and contexts of application include work organisations, sports and athletic organisations, educational institutions, legal systems, engineering and design, media and communication, and consumer and marketing organisations.
