Language Centre Instructor Receives International Accolade

Eve SMITH, Instructor at CityU’s Chan Feng Men-ling Chan Shuk-lin Language Centre, is selected as one of the 30 recipients of the English Language Specialist Program 30@30 Award by the United States Department of State in honour of the Specialist Program’s 30th Anniversary.

The Award recognises specialists who have made a lasting impact on the Specialist Program and on teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) field.

Prior to joining the University in 2017, Smith has taught in over 12 countries, including China, Ukraine, Afghanistan, The Republic of Georgia, and Russia. She is actively involved in teacher training and has helped establish several writing centres. While primarily focused on TESOL/TEFL teaching topics, Smith’s research interests led her to develop teacher training that taught both English language pedagogy and how to develop resilience. At CityU, she has been involved in course development and writing tutor training.

The English Language Specialist Program is sponsored by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. It sends experienced US TESOL professionals on teaching assignments at universities and other academic institutions around the world, promoting English language learning and cultural exchange.
