Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships for Local Students

Three taught postgraduate programmes of CLASS, including the Master of Arts in Public Policy and Management offered by the Department of Public Policy (POL), Master of Arts in Communication and New Media offered by the Department of Media and Communication (COM), and Master of Arts in Language Studies offered by the Department of Linguistics and Translation (LT), are among the programmes selected for the second cohort (2021/22) of the University Grants Committee (UGC)’s Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme.

The Scheme aims at attracting meritorious local students to pursue inter-disciplinary and in-depth postgraduate training in priority areas of strategic importance for Hong Kong in one of the eight UGC-funded universities. Both full-time and part-time local students are eligible.

Each awardee is required to pay a minimum tuition fee of HK$42,100, and the differences will be subsidised by the fellowships subject to a cap of HK$120,000. However, students who are awarded other government scholarships, including the Continuing Education Fund, will not be considered for the fellowship.

The award of the fellowships will be merit-based, taking into account students’ academic excellence, professional attainment, work experience, interview results and other programme-specific criteria. The personal statement about their commitment and the proposal on how they can contribute to the priority areas of Hong Kong after completing the programme concerned will also be assessed. To ensure proper use of public money, the performance of the fellowship students will be monitored continuously. Students who fail to complete the programme or attain an expected level of performance will be required to refund the full amount of the fellowship award received.

Those who are interested in applying for the Scheme may submit the application upon invitation by the respective programme offering departments. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and applicants will be notified of the selection results normally around end June (first round) and end August (second round).
