CityUHK physicist leads study revealing that magnetic fields can “revive” superconductivity in nickelates

A research team led by Professor Li Danfeng, Associate Dean (Research and Postgraduate Education) of the College of Science and Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at CityUHK, has discovered magnetic-field-induced re-entrant superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelates. The finding challenges conventional understanding and opens new directions for exploring unconventional superconducting mechanisms and next-generation materials.

An international research team led by a scholar from CityUHK has broken through the overlooked role of sewers as a source of methane, developing the first-ever globally applicable estimation tool and offering a new perspective on mitigating climate change. Professor Wang Wen-xiong, Chair Professor of Environmental Toxicology in the SEE and TUYF Chair Professor in Oceanography at CityUHK, has been bestowed the SETAC Founders Award. This is the highest individual honour presented by the SETAC, in recognition of his extraordinary achievements and foundational contributions to the fields of metal ecotoxicology, nanomaterials and microplastics in marine systems over his 30-year career.

As the first career event in this year and CityUHK’s sole STEM-focused fair, it served over 4,000 students across 13 departments and 27 disciplines from the organising colleges and schools.
