CityUHK has achieved outstanding results in the 2026–2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings, placing 47th among more than 2,600 universities across over 100 countries and regions — a rise of 7 places from last year. CityUHK is ranked 9th in Asia and 3rd in Hong Kong.

Four outstanding undergraduates from CityUHK were awarded the Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2026, in recognition of their innovative ideas and dedication to science and technology. Each awardee will receive HK$150,000 to undertake a series of elite-nurturing initiatives, including overseas and Chinese Mainland attachments, internships and mentorship programmes. They will also have the opportunity to engage in community outreach activities to translate their insights into practice and give back to society.

Professor Ray Cheung Chak-chung, Associate Provost (Digital Learning) at CityUHK, received a Certificate of Merit at the Fourth National Award for Excellence in Innovation in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of post-quantum cryptography, as well as his work in science communication and community service.

In the latest “2026 Research Leaders: Leading Institutions” rankings released by the Nature Index, CityUHK was ranked 67th globally, 2nd in Hong Kong and 41st in Asia. Notably, its global institutional ranking among academic institutions stands at 62nd, underscoring its prolific research output, strong research capabilities and far-reaching impact in the international academic community.

A high-level delegation from CityUHK, led by Professor the Honourable Michael Ngai, Council Chairman of CityUHK, recently visited Kazakhstan. In addition to advancing strategic partnerships in education and research and signing memoranda of understanding, the delegation experienced first-hand how tradition and modernity are woven into the fabric of urban life in Kazakhstan.

A high-level university delegation led by Professor the Honourable Michael Ngai, Council Chairman of CityUHK, continued its visit to Uzbekistan following a fruitful mission in Kazakhstan. The delegation met with Mr Salomov Uktam Rahimovich, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and signed an MoU with Tashkent State Technical University.

Professor the Honourable Michael Ngai, Council Chairman of CityUHK, led a high-level university delegation to commence a visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on 1 June. On the first day of the visit, the CityUHK delegation officially signed an MoU with the JSC ‘Center for International Programs’ (CIP) under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
