Professor Xu Jijian, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at CityUHK, has been named an Asian Young Scientist Fellow in the 2026 selection round for his achievements in the physical sciences. He is the only scholar from Hong Kong among the 12 young scientists selected across Asia this year.

A new academic year and a new beginning bring endless possibilities. CityUHK named the Most International University in the World by Times Higher Education for three consecutive years (2024–2026), has admitted more than 1,000 international students this year, marking a near 10-year high. Together with nearly 700 international exchange students and more than 3,000 local students, this further enriches CityUHK’s diverse and international campus, bringing fresh energy to the new academic year.

CityUHK achieved outstanding results at the National Finals of the 21st China Graduate Electronics Design Contest, securing three National First Prizes for its cutting-edge engineering innovations. This year’s competition marked the introduction of the inaugural Hong Kong and Macau Division, hosted by CityUHK, which enabled teams from Hong Kong and Macau, as well as cross-regional collaborations, to compete on the national stage.

CityUHK recorded over 140,000 applications in the 2026/27 JUPAS, reaching a record high and ranking first among all UGC-funded universities. The total number of Band A applications exceeded 19,000, also the highest among all UGC-funded institutions.

A research team at CityUHK has developed a new optical corner detection imaging method, which uses azimuthal Hilbert transform metasurfaces and is designed to work as a universal framework. The study marks an important advance in high-speed, low-power optical information processing and has demonstrated potential for motion tracking applications.
