Biography

Professor Dean Ho is Provost’s Chair Professor, Director of The Institute for Digital Medicine (WisDM) at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine; Director of The N.1 Institute for Health (N.1), and Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Prof. Ho and team launched a first-in-kind trial - with Prof. Ho as the test subject - to optimise his performance and biomarkers with digital technologies. This study has been featured on television and digital media programming, and major global meetings. Prof. Ho and team also manage a portfolio of over 10 prospective, interventional human oncology clinical trials with life-saving outcomes. A serial entrepreneur, he has advised health/human performance teams, nutrition and wearable firms, and venture funds on digital medicine deployment.

Prof. Ho is an elected Fellow of the US National Academy of Inventors (NAI), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), and the Royal Society of Chemistry. Prof. Ho is Co-Chair of the World Health Organization (WHO) Working Group for the regulation of AI for Health.

Biography

Professor Zhanfeng Cui is the Donald Pollock Professor of Chemical Engineering, University of Oxford since the Chair was established in 2000. He is the Founding Director of the Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research (OSCAR), the only Oxford University Centre outside the UK in Physical Sciences and Engineering. He was educated in China, and awarded BSc (1982), from Inner Mongolia Polytechnic University, MSc (1984) and PhD (1987) from Dalian University of Technology. After a postdoc in Strathclyde University (1988-1991), he became a Lecturer of Chemical Engineering in Edinburgh University in 1991, moved to Oxford in 1994 as a University Lecturer in Engineering Science and Tutorial Fellow of Keble College. He became a Reader in Engineering Science in 1999. He was elected to the first Chemical Engineering Chair at the University of Oxford in 2000 and a Professorial Fellow of Hertford College. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (FIChemE,2003) and a Fellow of American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (FAIMBE, 2014). In 2009, he was awarded a Higher Doctorate, Doctor of Science (DSc), by the University of Oxford, to recognize his excellence in academic scholarship. He was elected to a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng) in 2013, a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2021, and a Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci) in 2023.

Prof Cui is known for his work on membrane technology and bioprocessing. He has focused on the interface between Chemical Engineering and Life Sciences and Medicine. His current research interests focus on the development of enabling technologies for regenerative medicine (bioreactors, three dimensional culture, cryopreservation and scale-up), and applications to treat cancers, diabetes, neural degeneration and musculoskeletal conditions. He is also active in developing in vitro diagnostic technologies for point of care testing, in particular, of cancers and infectious diseases.

Biography

Professor LIM Chwee Teck is the NUS Society Chair Professor and Director of the Institute for Health Innovation and Technology at the National University of Singapore. He is also the Founding Director of the Singapore Health Technologies Consortium. His research interests are in human disease mechanobiology and the development of microfluidics and flexible wearable technologies for healthcare applications.

He is a prolific researcher having co-authored over 470 journal publications including in Nature and Science related journals and delivered more than 450 plenary/keynote/invited lectures. He is also a serial entrepreneur having cofounded six deep tech startups to commercialize technologies developed in his lab. Prof Lim is an Elected Fellow of IUPESM, US National Academy of Inventors, AIMBE, IAMBE, the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology, the Academy of Engineering, Singapore, the Singapore National Academy of Science and the Institution of Engineers, Singapore.

He and his team have received 130 research awards and honours including Nature Lifetime Achievement Award for Mentoring in Science, Asia’s Most Influential Scientist, Highly Cited Researcher, IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award, ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award, Asian Scientists 100, Wall Street Journal Asian Innovation Award (Gold) and the President's Technology Award among others. His research has received numerous media coverage including in BBC, Wall St Journal, Reuter News, National Geographic, CGTN, Straits Times, ChannelNewsAsia, etc.
