CLASS Continues to Admit Outstanding PhD Students

The nominees from CLASS for this year’s Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) all succeed in their applications. The 100 per cent success rate indicates that the strategy established by the College for identifying a high calibre of PhD students is sound.

Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of the HKSAR Government, HKPFS aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their research degree programmes in institutions of Hong Kong. The applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, high research ability or potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.

Candidates who are seeking admission to the PhD programmes of CLASS were first screened by the College’s research degree coordinators through an effective and fair process, prior to being nominated for RGC’s consideration.

The high research standards and excellent learning support from the faculty have been attracting research students from all over the world to CLASS over the past several years. Current and past students pursuing their research degrees in the College’s departments come from the United States, the United Kingdom, Mainland China, Korea, Singapore, Sweden, and many other countries.

Each awardee of HKPFS who accepts an offer from CityU will receive the “Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Entrance Scholarships”, which covers student’s full-time tuition fees and on-campus hostel accommodation expenses in their first year of studies, in addition to monthly stipend and a conference and research-related travel allowance for up to three years provided by the scheme.
