Dr Esther Chow has been named a fellow of The Gerontological Society of America

We are pleased to announce that Dr Esther Chow in the Department of Applied Social Sciences has been named Fellow of The Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the largest interdisciplinary organisation devoted to the field of aging in America. It is an acknowledgment of her outstanding and continuing work in gerontology from the Society.

Dr Chow is the program leader of Bachelor of Social Science (Social Work) in the Department of Applied Social Sciences. Most of her teaching and research scholarship is applied and practice-oriented. In collaboration with students, colleagues, and professional practitioners, she investigates the effects of practice, service models and special public policies in the contexts of higher education, health and social care.

“It is a great honor for me to receive the recognitions,” said Dr Chow. “GSA has been my professional home which connects people to form interdisciplinary bonds to advance interdisciplinary research, education, policy and practice, and also address the global challenges of population aging. I am so privilege to have the opportunities to learn from many international scholars, and committed to working together to promote the future of aging around us.”

Dr Chow’s current research interests lie in the main areas of narrative practice as a therapeutic approach, life adversities and wisdom, self-help and mutual-aid, spirituality and recovery, resilience and culture.

Please join us in congratulating Dr Chow.
