CLASS Faculty Elected Fellow of the Royal Historical Society

CityU’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is pleased to announce that Dr TSUI Lik-hang, Assistant Professor of CityU’s Department of Chinese and History (CAH), was recently elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (RHS) by the Society’s Council in recognition of his outstanding contribution to historical scholarship, notably his substantial endeavours in enriching the digital humanities and Chinese History.

“It comes as a welcome surprise and tremendous honour. I know this would not be possible without the support I have received from the University. I look forward to contributing to the Society’s work and activities,” Dr Tsui remarked. As an expert in middle period Chinese history and culture as well as the digital humanities, he is currently authoring a book on Song dynasty epistolary culture (the 10th – 13th centuries) and planning another one on digital humanities in China. Alongside the RHS fellowship, Dr Tsui is also a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland.

Founded in 1868, the RHS is a prestigious learned society, membership organisation, and charity with 150 years of history. It is currently the foremost society in the UK working for historians and history. In 2022, over 4500 historians belong and contribute to the RHS as fellows and members active in the UK and worldwide. As the largest membership organisation for historians of all kinds in the UK, the RHS is held in high regard by historians internationally and is a partner to similar organisations overseas. These national and international connections are led by the historians who make up the RHS Council (Trustees) and the small central team based at University College London, which is the home of the Society.

Along with Dr Tsui, most of the 56 new Fellows hold academic appointments at universities, specialising in a wide range of fields, but also include archivists, broadcasters, curators, public servants, and teachers. The RHS is an international community of historians, and the latest intake includes Fellows from the UK, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, and the US.
