Photo 1: Dr CHENG Chun-pong, Deputy Hospital Chief Executive (Tuen Mun Hospital), presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr Jack Pun for his training.On 4 August 2022, Dr Jack PUN, Assistant Professor at CityU’s Department of English, conducted a three-hour training workshop for local clinicians at Tuen Mun Hospital about ways of doing a qualitative systematic review with NVivo, a qualitative analysis computer software.
The NVivo software facilitates the qualitative research process and assists researchers in qualitative systematic reviews. Over 17 clinicians participated in this interactive workshop, including senior doctors, nurses, management, allied health professionals, and Quality and Safety Division staff.
The first part of the training was an introduction to a systematic review. Dr Pun presented the significance of systematic review and how to use NVivo to formulate research questions, collect and analyse data. Later, the clinicians were introduced to the NVivo interface as well as a series of pre-recorded videos and live demonstrations to enhance their understanding of the software. Through a series of practices, the participants developed qualitative research skills using NVivo software to conduct clinical research in the relevant disciplines. The training concluded successfully, and Dr Pun received much positive feedback from the participants.
