CLASS received enthusiastic response on CityU Information Day
City University of Hong Kong (CityU) hosted the CityU Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions (Information Day) on 17 October. College exhibitions, topical lectures and department workshops were organised to provide visitors with the latest information on the University’s programmes and campus life. The event attracted a big turnout of secondary school students, parents and teachers. Visitors kept coming into the campus and department exhibitions were enthusiastically received.

All hands on deck

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and its seven departments, including Applied Social Sciences, Asian and International Studies, Chinese and History, English, Linguistics and Translation, Media and Communication and Public Policy, set up exhibition booths in Chan Tai Ho Multi-purpose Hall. Professors and current students were present to offer one-on-one Q&A and introduction to visitors. On top of these, Applied Social Sciences organised a guided tour to the laboratories, so that participants could gain a deeper understanding on the applicability and practicability of the programmes. Media and Communications, on the other hand, took visitors to the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre to show them the teaching and research facilities on site, including an eye tracker laboratory, a production studio, a recording studio, a 3D virtual production studio, etc.

Lecture on reformed admission model unprecedentedly popular

The admission model of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences will change from college-based to grouped-departments based for the 2016 intake. Since there are also changes in the admission requirements for JUPAS programmes, different departments at CLASS have arranged 19 lectures to brief students on the admission requirements and selection criteria via the JUPAS and non-JUPAS admission routes. Lectures organised for New Senior Secondary curriculum students were overwhelmingly received. The lecture organised by Applied Social Sciences was the most popular. About 800 participants attended the lecture, outnumbering the planned capacity by 200. To ensure that students can gain first-hand updates of the departments’ latest information, departments explained the admission routes, programme contents, course selection process as well as matters related to major and minor subjects through the series of lectures. There were also interactive Q&A sessions that answered students’ and parents’ questions on admission.
