CityU should consider making its presence felt in the western part of the Chinese mainland through close collaboration with Chongqing, according to Dr Zhu Guobin, who led a delegation of six to visit the rapidly developing municipality, 18-21 April.
CityU and the University of Paris Dauphine signed a cooperation agreement on 13 May to launch a joint Master of Science in Mathematics for Finance and Actuarial Science degree--the first of its kind in Hong Kong.

City University will join forces with an IT firm to promote the education of Linux. A signing ceremony between the Department of Computer Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) and Thiz Technology Group Ltd, a pioneer developer of the Linux platform and business software applications, took place on 4 March at CityU.
Representatives from the government, the private sector and academia debated how the advancement of knowledge through research could play a role in boosting Hong Kong's economy at a forum in the Wei Hing Theatre on 4 December. The forum kicked off the Postgraduate Research Expo 2002, organized by the CityU Postgraduate Association to showcase our graduate students' research talent and achievements.
As part of its bid to enrich the learning experience, CityU encourages students to take part in its Student Exchange Programme. Under this scheme, students are eligible to apply for Student Exchange Fund (SEF) sponsorship to study in one of CityU's partner institutions for one or two semesters. Successful SEF candidates receive support up to a maximum of 50% of the total costs incurred for passage, accommodation and incidental charges.
CityU's endeavours to tap into the scientific and technological potential of the Pearl River Delta are based on a two-pronged approach. In May this year, the University opened its Zhuhai Applied Research Centres, making it the first local tertiary institution to set up a research base in Guangdong's Southern Software Park, on the western side of the river estuary.
CityU's Academic Exchange Office has organized an exhibition to explain the details of its Student Exchange Fund (SEF) and the sponsorship the fund offers for the academic year 2003-04.
CityU has signed a student exchange agreement with Canada's renowned University of Western Ontario.
