CityU students joined their counterparts at Zhejiang University to present a cultural performance on 18 April at the Wei Hing Theatre, bringing the concept of student exchange to new heights.
Miss Marui Noriko, a budding teacher from Japan, spent three weeks, from mid-February to early March, in the Division of Language Studies on an internship programme to polish her Japanese teaching skills. Her brief stay proved to be a stimulating experience for both Miss Noriko and the students in the Division.

A student from the Division of Languages, Lai Sau Yin, has been awarded a one-year scholarship from the Mombusho (Education Ministry) of the Japanese Government, to study Japanese language and culture in the Nagoya National University.

The College's Division of Language Studies (LS) received a donation of $100,000 from Soka Gakkai International of Hong Kong Ltd at a presentation ceremony held at CityU on 18 April. The donation will be used to purchase Japanese language teaching materials for the Applied Japanese Studies programme. It is the second time the Division has received a donation from Soka Gakkai - the first was a series of 25 volumes of the Japanese version of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
Three CityU students were honoured for their excellent work in French language studies at the First French Awards Presentation Ceremony, organized by the French Section of the Division of Language Studies on 11 May 2001.
