Orientations ceremonies at the start of the new academic year extended a warm welcome to postgraduate students at City University of Hong Kong (CityU).
CityU has secured a total of 154 grants with funding worth $87.7 million from the RGC, an increase of 29% and 22% respectively compared to last year’s figures.
Three top scholars from CityU were conferred 2013 CityU Research Excellence Awards for their contributions to the local and international scholarly arenas.
CityU is co-hosting, with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the academician conference “Engineering Science and Technology: Trends and Frontiers” on 14-15 December. It will bring together highly regarded scientists to discuss the possible frontiers of technological advancement.
A distinguished lecture was given by one of the world’s most original and prolific researchers in bio-organic chemistry, Professor Wong Chi-huey, President of the Academia Sinica, Taiwan on 11 November, looking at the significance of protein glycosylation in identifying new cancer biomarkers for diagnosis and drug discovery.
Professor Yang Tong, Professor Leung Kwok and Professor Cheng Sheung-tak were awarded the CityU Research Excellence Awards 2009 for their outstanding research achievements.
