CityU has organised a conference on the Internationalisation of Chinese Universities. Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, and representatives from mainland, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong universities and government sectors shared their views on the topic.
Students from CityU and Tianjin University engaged in a debating competition entitled "Does economic globalisation result in cultural globalisation?" on 17 July to examine the interaction of Eastern and Western cultural influences in Hong Kong and Tianjin.

Students, staff and alumni have expressed their deep concerns about Council Chairman Sir Gordon Wu's remarks in Ming Pao on 3 March,and reiterated their support for CityU’s direction.
At a Council meeting on 14 April, lengthy discussions including the University’s role were held. At the end of the meeting, Council Chairman Sir Gordon Wu was convinced and agreed that CityU has indeed adhered to its role.
