New bachelor degree students (2011-12)

In order to meet the University’s English Language Attainment Requirement bachelor degree students entering City University in August 2011 are required to take either one or two of the following ELC courses in academic English.

New associate degree students in the Division of Building Science and Technology (BST) and the School of Creative Media (SCM) (2011-12)

In order to meet the University’s English Language Attainment Requirement associate degree students of BST and SCM entering City University in August 2011 are required to take either one or two of the following ELC courses in academic English.

Students who entered City University before August 2011

Due to the introduction of the new curriculum and the phasing out of all the old ELC courses by July 2012 it is essential that all students who entered the University before 2011 complete their six credits of English in the ELC within the current academic year 2011-12; otherwise these students will be required to take courses in the new curriculum.

Until July 2012 bachelor degree students who do not qualify for exemption from ELC courses must take the two core University English courses and two or three University English electives for a total of six credits. Some departments or programmes may require students to take specified electives.

Until July 2011 associate degree students in the Division of Building Science and Technology (BST) and the School of Creative Media (SCM) who do not qualify for exemption from ELC courses must take the following three core courses:

BST associate degree students must also take three credits of University English electives (above).

SCM associate degree students do not take any other ELC courses. They must take three credits of other approved language courses to fulfil the University language requirement.

BST and SCM students who articulate into a bachelor’s degree programme at CityU do not need to take the University English core courses.
