ELC Course Content
Bachelor’s degree students who do not qualify for exemption from ELC courses must take the two core University English courses and two or three University English electives for a total of six credits. Some departments or programmes may require students to take specified electives.

Associate degree students in the Division of Building Science and Technology (BST), the School of Law (SLW) and the School of Creative Media (SCM) who do not qualify for exemption from ELC courses must take the following three core courses:

BST and SLW associate degree students must also take three credits of University English electives (above).

SCM associate degree students do not take any other ELC courses. They must take three credits of other approved language courses to fulfil the University language requirement.

BST, SLW and SCM students who articulate into a bachelor’s degree programme at CityU do not need to take the University English core courses.

Community College students who do not qualify for exemption from ELC courses must take the following course:                     

EL1000 English for Academic Studies    42 hours 3 credits

College students who articulate into a bachelor’s degree programme at CityU will have one credit transferred. They will have to take the two University English core courses and one or two University English electives, for a total of five credits.
