P10: Quantum Physics and Reality - Is the Moon There When Unseen?

This talk explores one of the most profound and enduring questions in physics: does reality exist independently of observation? At the heart of this question lies the historic debate between Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr—two towering figures of 20th-century physics—over the interpretation of quantum mechanics.

We will examine the concepts of hidden variables, quantum entanglement, and nonlocality, culminating in a discussion of Bell’s theorem and its experimental tests. These ideas not only challenge classical intuitions about causality and locality, but also touch upon deep philosophical questions about the nature of reality. The talk will highlight the significance of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics, awarded for pioneering experiments that confirm quantum mechanics' strange predictions. This lecture offers a journey through physics and philosophy, where measurement, reality, and uncertainty intertwine.

Students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of quantum physics through interactive experiences powered by virtual reality (VR) technology.
