Rising STARs Science Camp 2026

 

The Rising STARs Science Camp 2026 is a 5-day summer programme that designed for secondary students who wish to explore university life at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). Through a combination of academic learning, hands-on science activities, mentorship and residential experience, students will gain valuable exposure to university study and future academic pathways in science.

By joining the Science Camp, students will:

  • Take a credit-bearing course offered by the College of Science (CSCI) at CityUHK, gaining a genuine taste of university academics
  • Experience residential hall life, bonding with peers and student mentors
  • Participate in hands-on scientific activities – including experiments, mini-projects, lab exploration with academic staff and student mentors
  • Learn beyond the classroom – through workshops, team challenges, campus exploration and meaningful community service activities

Eligibility

Full-time students in Secondary 4 to 6 / Year 10 to Year 13 (or equivalent) in Hong Kong for the 2026-27 academic year


Quota

50 participants
Selection will mainly be based on academic performance, ability to meet course prerequisites and interest in science.

  • 11 May - 20 June 2026: Offer released on a rolling basis until all places are filled

Notes:
  • Payment instruction will be included in the Notice of Offer.
  • The fee includes meals provided during the residential camp, one-night accommodation, and enrollment in a one-credit CSCI course at CityUHK.
  • All fees paid are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Application Procedures

Applications must be submitted by schools via online nomination.

Each school may nominate up to 5 students. The following documents are required.

  • Scanned copies of the school examination reports from the last TWO terms
    (Final term of 2024/25 and First term of 2025/26)
  • A brief self-introduction written in English, including
    • Interested science subject(s)
    • Expectations from the Rising STARs Science Camp

Accommodation

Participants will be arranged to stay at the CityUHK Student Residence (Kowloon Tong Compound), in double rooms with students of the same gender.

Course Title: Science Discovery
Offered by: College of Science (CSCI)

CSCI1003 is a 1 credit unit university-level undergraduate course with approximately 13 contact hours. Students who meet the attendance and assessment requirements of the course will earn 1 academic credit, which may be recognized toward future undergraduate studies at CityUHK.

General Information

The Rising STARs Science Camp is open to full-time students in Secondary 4 to 6 / Year 10 to Year 13 (or equivalent) in Hong Kong for the 2026-27 academic year.

English will be used for the credit-bearing course.

Application

Applications are submitted by school nomination. Each school may nominate up to 5 students.

Interviews may be arranged depending on the number of applications.

All applications will be reviewed. Students’ academic performance, ability to meet course prerequisites, and interest in science will all be considered.

Academic Matters

Assessments may include quizzes, individual presentations and group presentations.

Students with at least 80% attendance and who have successfully completed the assessment will receive a Certificate of Achievement by email and by mail from the College of Science within two months.

Yes. Students admitted to CityUHK may apply for credit exemption using the Certificate of Achievement.

Accommodation on Campus

Yes. One night in CityUHK Student Residence (Kowloon Tong Compound).

Students will be assigned to a double room at Kowloon Tong Compound. No single rooms will be provided. Roommates of the same gender will be assigned by the College of Science, CityUHK.

No. Only Science Camp participants are eligible to stay on campus during Days 4 and 5.

Fees and Refund

Payment is required only after receiving the Notice of Offer.

If you are receiving sponsorship from a school, please have the school contact the College of Science to arrange payment.

Withdrawals are allowed, but all paid fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Terms and Conditions

  1. CityUHK reserves all rights and retains full authority to make necessary adjustments to the programme schedule, content, accommodation arrangements or instructors.
  2. The School shall not, and procure that the Participants shall not, use the name, logo, trade or service marks and trade name of CityUHK or any CityUHK’s employees in any advertising or promotional activities without the prior written consent of CityUHK.
  3. The School shall procure the consent of the Participants for CityUHK and its representatives to take photographic or video footage of the Participants during any activities related to the Science Camp, including, but not limited to, the briefing session, workshops, classes, visits, and ceremonies. These materials may be used by CityUHK for purposes related to the Science Camp, or for other educational, promotional, or publicity purposes.
  4. Participants are required to:
    • Adhere to campus rules and staff instructions
    • Attend all scheduled activities
    • Show respect for fellow participants and campus facilities
    • Comply with all safety guidelines, particularly in laboratories
    Serious misconduct may result in expulsion from the programme without a refund.
  5. Participants must declare any medical conditions, allergies, or medication needs. They are responsible for their own personal medication and any associated medical expenses.
  6. Programme arrangements will comply with CityUHK’s guidelines concerning “Adverse Weather Arrangements”. Please be aware that fees are non-refundable in the event of cancellations due to weather-related issues.
