College of Science Hosts University of Johannesburg Delegation for Academic Exchange

The College of Science (CSCI) was honoured to have a delegation from the Faculty of Science of the University of Johannesburg visit CityUHK during 21–24 April 2026. Led by Prof. Ntsamaeeng Annah Moteetee, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science, the delegation also includes, Prof. Oluwafemi Ayodeji Adebo, Vice Dean (Global Engagement) of Faculty of Science; Prof. Langelihle Nsikayezwe Dlamini, Head of Department of Chemical Sciences; Prof. Buyisiwe Mavis Sondezi, Head of Department of Physics; and Dr. Maria Vivien Vallente Visaya, Senior Lecturer of Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.

The delegation joined a series of meetings with the College of Science Management Team, Heads, and faculty members from the Departments of Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. They explored opportunities to enhance research cooperation, expand postgraduate and faculty engagement, and grow joint initiatives aligned with global outreach and internationalisation goals.

The delegation also visited CSCI’s research labs, including the JC STEM Lab of Electrocatalysis and Electrosynthesis, the JC STEM Lab of Energy and Materials Physics, and the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health. This allowed both institutions to identify shared interests, especially in advanced science and technology applications.

The delegation also toured the JC STEM Lab of Energy and Materials Physics, led by Prof. Yang Ren, Head of the Department of Physics.

In addition, the delegation met with the College of Biomedicine and engaged with the Office of the Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise). Discussions covered innovation and entrepreneurship development in Hong Kong and South Africa.

Overall, the visit enhanced academic links and knowledge sharing with the University of Johannesburg, creating a strong foundation for future joint programmes and innovation-led collaborations.
