Remarkable GRF and ECS Grant Success

2025-2026_grfecs_funding_results_4

Faculty members from CityUHK’s College of Science (CSCI) accomplished outstanding results in the 2025-2026 General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS) under the Research Grants Council (RGC).

This year, CSCI has achieved an overall success rate of 48% and successfully secured funding for 39 GRF and ECS projects, amounting to over HK$37 million, marking the largest amount of GRF/ECS funding awarded since the College was established. Notably, 12 of our colleagues have each received substantial grants exceeding one million dollars. Within CityUHK, CSCI contributed about one-fifth in both the number and funding amount of GRF and ECS awarded grants.

Among local universities, CityUHK’s success rates of getting GRF grants is ranked top 3 in the Chemical Engineering and Mathematics discipline. In terms of the number of GRF grants and the amount of funding, CityUHK ranked No.1 in Chemical Engineering, No. 2 in Mathematics and among the top 3 in Physical Sciences.

For ECS grants, CityUHK is ranked 3rd among all institutions in the number of grants and approved funding. It is worth noting that we proudly received the highest number of grants and funding in Chemical Engineering and Mathematics.

As a modest college with a relatively small faculty size, the number of GRF and ECS awards and funding received by our faculty members is impressive. Congratulations to all the GRF and ECS grant recipients. The dedicated efforts have significantly contributed to the University’s research excellence.

With concerted efforts, the College looks forward to having more faculty members successfully obtain GRF/ECS and other external competitive research funding, particularly strategic grants, in the coming year.
