Senior Engineer / Engineer – Cathode Materials Fabrication for Lithium-ion Batteries
Company name

Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI)

Job Type
Full time
Job Description

Duties
The appointee will be responsible for research and development of cathode materials fabrication for lithium-ion batteries. Key responsibilities include:
Design, development, validation, and analysis of high-efficiency deep eutectic solvents (DES) for leaching high-value elements from battery black mass, aimed at preparing cathode materials with high compacted density for LIBs. Propose and conduct experiments to investigate DES leaching mechanisms and efficiencies;
Propose and execute electrochemical evaluation experiments for cathode materials, including composition design, morphology control, process optimization, and surface modification;
Analyze and evaluate chemical and electrochemical data to identify individual and interactive effects of cathode materials under study; perform root-cause analysis of failures and implement corrective actions throughout development and scale-up;
Conduct literature reviews to stay current with advances in electrochemical characterization methodologies, and apply relevant techniques to NAMI’s R&D activities; and
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
PhD or Master’s degree in Inorganic Chemistry, Coordination Chemistry, Metallurgical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, Materials Chemistry, or related disciplines. Fresh graduates will also be considered;
Solid understanding of cathode material synthesis mechanisms and process optimization, and their impact on lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery performance. Hands-on experience in cathode material synthesis is an advantage;
Strong theoretical knowledge and preferably hands-on experience in electrochemical analysis of energy storage devices, such as lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells;
Familiarity with electrical and electrochemical characterization techniques, including CV, EIS, DCIR, transference number measurements, and electrolyte or full-cell evaluation;
Strong analytical skills and in-depth understanding of lithium battery electrochemical behavior. Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DoE) is a plus;
Experience with analytical laboratory techniques such as ICP, SEM-EDS, GC-MS, DSC, DCM, and FTIR;
Strong troubleshooting capability with a proactive, can-do attitude; high accountability and sense of responsibility;
Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese, with strong technical report writing, presentation skills, and experience in literature and patent searches; and
Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
