C19: The Soft Shore Ecology and Its Conservation in Hong Kong
Soft shores (e.g. sandy shores and mudflats) are vulnerable intertidal (area where the land meets the sea that is submerged by seawater when the tide comes in and emerges when the tide recedes) habitats characterised by high biodiversity. However, they are threatened by various human disturbances, including coastal development, pollution and clam digging. This talk will introduce the ecology of soft shores in Hong Kong, the threats they are facing and the conservation work that is being done.
