Unanimously elected as the new President of The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA), Dr Shi is going to lead the business sector to scale new heights by overcoming the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and trade war.

“Be a man of his word and be bold to take on challenges” is Dr Shi’s motto. Born to a low-income family, he joined the printing industry after completing his secondary school education as his mother encouraged him to learn a practical skill for work. During the time when he set up his own company, he faced a lot of difficulties and challenges. However, he overcame all the hurdles and became a leader in the industry through his excellent products and services.

With the spirit of “Striving to advance and keeping up with the times,” Dr Shi constantly acquires new knowledge to upgrade himself. As he understood the importance of modern management for the development of his company, he enrolled on CityU’s Executive Master of Business Administration. By integrating book knowledge with his extensive work experience, he succeeded in taking his business to new heights. He believes the key to success is setting clear goals. Over the years, his customers have come to deeply appreciate his company’s continuous pursuit of breakthroughs in business and his belief in innovation.

Upholding the philosophy of “Giving back to society with what has been taken from society,” Dr Shi actively takes part in community services and donates generously to CityU. He fully supports CityU’s development of the first-ever bachelor’s degree programme in veterinary medicine in Hong Kong. This programme will help to nurture a new generation of veterinary professionals and promote human, animal and environmental well-being under the One Health paradigm.

Dr Shi, as the new President of CMA, urges the industry to bite the bullet in response to the impact of the epidemic on Hong Kong’s economy and the difficulties created by the trade war, and at the same time explore the vast mainland market. In addition, he encourages young people to deepen their understanding of mainland China, and seize the opportunity to work in the Greater Bay Area for laying a solid foundation for their career development.

“Broaden your horizons and seize the opportunities,” he said.
