Department of Electronic Engineering Professor Ron Hui and his company, E-Energy, have received the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Award. His team's two breakthrough products, the two-wired dimmable ballast and the universal electronic ballast for fluorescent lamps, were highly commended by the selection committee.

In another milestone in its development, CityU is the first local institution of higher education to foster a technology company from start-up to public listing. TeleEye Holdings Ltd plans to make a public offer and placing of 50 million new shares, representing 27.8% of the shareholding, on Hong Kong's Growth Enterprise Market. Of the total, 42 million shares are earmarked for a placing and eight million shares will be offered for public subscription.

The University has identified new areas of strategic interest in both inter- and multidisciplinary research, with the setting up of three new Faculty Research Centres: Centre for Chaos Control and Synchronization, Centre for Media Technology, and Southeast Asia Centre . With these additions, the number of faculty research centres at CityU now totals 10.
