The Chinese New Year Staff Party, held on 7 February, was full of festive fun and joy for the more than 1,000 City University staff members who gathered in the Chan Tai Ho Multi-Purpose Hall to celebrate the Year of the Goat.
The campus bookshop, which used to be located on the Level 4 Mall of the Academic Building will be moved down to Level 3 right next to the new escalator off the library entrance in the Green Zone. The new shop, sporting a complete facelift, is targeted for opening on 4 February. A new operator, the Commercial Press (HK) Ltd, will take over when the new venue is filled out, hopefully, with a wider choice of textbooks and general books, better services and more competitive prices.
The second phase of CityU's ambitious physical improvement program is almost completed and visitors will notice a distinct difference in the campus ambiance, particularly in the fourth floor of the Academic Building and tidying up the pedestrian entrance-or "Red Door".
You walk into the subway between Festival Walk and the University campus. The brick concrete walls are gone and have been replaced by trendy metal panels. Displayed on the panels are plaques of quotations by renowned scholars and famous people. Ceiling lights brighten up the previously rather dark and dingy tunnel.
When Mr Kingston Sun, our Facilities Manager, signed up for the "Walk to Guangzhou" fundraising activity organized by Sowers Action in January this year, he never expected to meet so many colleagues, ex-colleagues and CityU students at the event.
