CityU has awarded the first William Benter Prize in Applied Mathematics to Professor George Papanicolaou, Professor of Mathematics of Stanford University, in recognition of his exceptional contributions across a wide spectrum of research areas in applied mathematics.
During a three-week visit to CityU in June, world renowned mathematician Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, Director of Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques conducted the third lecture of the William Benter Distinguished Lecture Series on 15 June.
The celebrated mathematician Professor Stephen Smale gave the second lecture of the William Benter Distinguished Lecture Series in Pure and Applied Mathematics on 8 June.
